Out of curiosity, why does Bree not get a save for Saturday’s game?

Thanks for asking, I've been really confused about all of this...
even the "winning pitcher" type stuff. Was still thinking MLB (which as a kid probably didn't completely undertand either)

The word "save" is a misnomer. Save should only be used when a
pitcher comes in when the team is losing and the team then wins the game. Coming in when your team is winning by even 1 run doesn't constitute anything was "saved". Most of the time all a pitcher has done is "finish" the game but "finish" doesn't sound as important as "save". With so many conditions needing to be met and all those conditions used to define a save, it's an overly-defined made up stat that is extremely over-rated. ** Edited by laphroaig at 4/5/2026, 6:59:19 AM

The idea is that you "saved" a lead after replacing a shaky starter.
In other words, your starter built your team's lead but was starting to fall apart. You come in to save the day and close the door on the opponent. Carrico did meet the criteria for a save according to the official rulebook: 14298 Save. A pitcher must meet all three of the following conditions to be credited with a save: 142981 They are the last pitcher in the win 142982 They are not the winning pitcher 142983 They meet one of the following conditions: 1429831 They enter or reenter the game to pitch with a lead of not more than three runs and pitch for at least one inning 1429832 They pitch effectively for at least three innings 1429833 They enter or reenter the game to pitch with the potential tying run on base, at bat or on-deck

If your team is losing when you enter then you get a win. Might want to
rethink your argument

Agree with you most times - but not in this case, especially for a visiting
team holding a 1 run lead in the bottom of the 9th...saving the W from an L is accurate... I could also call it a Hold, but that term is not as descriptive and MLB has picked that term up in the last decade to mean something less, but still important... Cheers!

Yeah, well that's not surprising because you were a pitcher, right?
Never said it wasn't important. But it is overblown in many occurrences.

If true, then she should have. Here's the official requirements for a save
Direct from the NCAA Rule Book: 14298 Save. A pitcher must meet all three of the following conditions to be credited with a save: 142981 They are the last pitcher in the win 142982 They are not the winning pitcher 142983 They meet one of the following conditions: 1429831 They enter or reenter the game to pitch with a lead of not more than three runs and pitch for at least one inning 1429832 They pitch effectively for at least three innings 1429833 They enter or reenter the game to pitch with the potential tying run on base, at bat or on-deck Note: Not more than one save may be credited in a game

She meets 2 of the criteria so she should definitely get a save
