Charlotte Moore is a sophomore yet she only appeared in five games last year - as a pinchrunner. Bree Carrico didn't play... Just an example. Sucks that football can redshirt ....

And the player must have played less than 30% of that season’s games.
For example, this is Rachel Castine’s fifth year as is Bre Warren’s. Both had a redshirt year.
The crazy thing about softball is a player apparently can’t apply for the redshirt year until they have used up their eligibility. Crazy rule.
Theoretically, Bree Carrico can apply for a redshirt year, but only after she plays four years.
I don’t know what the logic is that makes the redshirt rules different from football.

My understanding is she graduated early and came in a spring semester with the intention to redshirt. Just be around the team, practice, take classes etc. It really benefited her because she started 49 of the 56 games she played in last spring. Should be a starter again this spring as a RS soph.
Now if she came in early “injured” I have no idea.

This is a slam dunk. If a player goes the entire spring season, NEVER entering the game in any capacity, either as a starter or as an announced sub, thy do not expend a year of eligibility. You frequently see such “redshirts” declaring their remaining years of eligibility as they advertise their entrance into the transfer portal.

I alsi believe if a softball player ever wanted to challenge the NCAA redshirt rule in court, the player would win.

But now you have softball players that attended JUCO for 2 years being allowed to play extra years thanks to Diego Pava's victory in court. There is no common sense or fairness in how redshirt rules play out. Now football wants to allow players up to 9 games of play and still get a redshirt year.

Bree most definitely has 4 years of eligibility remaining if she wants them. Yes, Charlotte used a year of eligibility despite a limited role in her 1st season.
