There is a redshirt year available in SB but only for injury

And the player must have played less than 30% of that season’s games. For example, this is Rachel Castine’s fifth year as is Bre Warren’s. Both had a redshirt year. The crazy thing about softball is a player apparently can’t apply for the redshirt year until they have used up their eligibility. Crazy rule. Theoretically, Bree Carrico can apply for a redshirt year, but only after she plays four years. I don’t know what the logic is that makes the redshirt rules different from football.

It's the NCAA. Logic need not apply.

Should be challenged as a Title 9 violation
