Looks like we may have landed another transfer
Bre Warren, an outfielder and a former Top 10 recruit in high school, posted on Instagram wearing a VT sweatshirt with the quote "All glory to God, @VTsoftball," which would seem to indicate that she's now a Hokie. As a high school senior, Bre was ranked as the #9 player in the Class of 2020 by Flo Softball. She started her college career at Texas A&M, a logical decision since her dad is Ty Warren, a former A&M football player who was All-Big 12 as a senior. The Patriots made him a first-round choice in 2003, and Warren played 10 NFL seasons, winning two Super Bowls along the way Bre did very well herself as an Aggie, earning all-SEC honors as a freshman after hitting .308 with 28 runs batted in. Unfortunately, Warren had to have shoulder surgery to repair her rotator cuff and labrum during the off-season and she completely missed her second year and still wasn’t one hundred percent in 2023 when she only started 23 games, batting just .182. After that season, she decided to transfer to South Carolina for a fresh start. During the 2024 season, she played in 39 games, starting 27 of them in the outfield and DP role. She did not play in 2025, which may have been a result of the coaching change there as new head coach Ashley Chastain brought in 8 players from the transfer portal. Bre appears to be a country girl, as she grew up on the family’s 300-acre ranch, where they raised cattle and pigs. Bre started showing cattle when she was in middle school and won grand champion in Houston. She and her sisters also won other showings in Austin, San Antonio and Fort Worth. Welcome to Hokie family, Bre! . ** Edited by VTChip at 7/12/2025, 3:55:38 PM

Wow. That puts the roster at 25 for '26.
5 seniors (2 P) 8 juniors (1 P) 4 sophomores 8 freshmen (3 P) Including Carrico as a (redshirt) freshman. & there will surely be some redshirting again next year.

Or perhaps someone transfers after the fall
I could be wrong, but I believe that redshirts count towards roster limits.

Redshirts do count toward the roster limits.

I thought so

Well, the limit is 25. It's just a lot of players, especially w/ CPD not
one to be platooning much after the first few weeks. & they're also currently at 26 for 2027. 5 seniors leaving with 6 freshmen inbound.

Sounds good. So does she have one year or two remaining?
Hope she’s as good as Bre Peck!

I believe she just has one.

Could be one season that could be translated/interpreted as a redshirt?

Here's a story on her from South Carolina
Sounds like she may have transferred there because of Coach Bev Smith ("made it feel like family"), who was le go after last season. This quote is certainly impressive: "My daily schedule in high school would have me waking up a 5 a.m., feed the cows, wash, and walk them, and then get ready for school.”

“You can’t just rely on athletic ability.” I like her!
Welcome, Bre!
