The Moyer Complex in Salem re-opened today
The city of Salem spent $27.5 million to upgrade the facility and have big plans for the future. In the past, Salem has hosted 27 D3 National title games and I believe they are also the home field for Roanoke College.
Pete had a fall ball game scheduled for Salem the last two years (last year at the Kiwanis Field), both of which were rained out, so don't be surprised if they don't try again this year at the new facility.

facilities. I referee high school soccer and the City of Salem soccer/football stadium that Salem High School uses is a great facility. They recently re-turfed the playing surface. I'd like to see them get the D3 football championship game back again for a multi-year stretch.......

Sounds like there’s a possibility of VT hosting a softball tournament there.

His exact words: "we're going to be hosting a preseason college tournament with Virginia Tech at the end of February/the first of March - it's already on the books." He went on to say that with four fields, they could have multiple games going on at the same time and were hoping for a number of teams to participate. He also pointed out that the Moyer complex has more seating than Duke, which hosted the ACC tournament.
It's a bit strange that he would make the announcement before all the details have been worked out, but he may have just got caught up in the all the excitement of the opening.
If it were to happen though, that would be AWESOME. Fingers crossed.

have more seats than the one field at Duke or does each field at Moyer have more than Duke?

Hard to tell which field has the most seating. Maybe the near left one, as it seems to have the biggest scoreboard.

I remember filming the games in CF behind one of those low temporary fences with seating on the rest of the grass.

base umpire that cost us a game? Didn’t have replay back then. Thought Scot Thomas was going to be booted from the game. That ump was bad anyway.

I had my car in Salem because I was going back and forth for games and family stuff. I just remember beating ND and Villanova, teams who had swept us in the regular season and then falling twice in the championship games. I walked in the Pamplin graduation, few quick pics and I hauled a#$ to Salem for the championship, got there a little late but Scot was cool with it. Family came up at their own pace and we had a picnic in the outfield after graduation.
Then thinking we had done enough to make regionals, we watched the selection show together and didn’t make it. It was the last year of 48 teams I believe before it went to the now 64. Unfortunately I know what that feeling is like.

playing a tournament at Salem could be a "home game" as far as attendance goes. Can Moyer hold all of us regulars?

The Hokies softball team played all of their home games at The Moyer Complex.

I think that was the main reason for the renovation.

Tournament organizers always schedule the biggest draw to the field with the most seats.
