Softball America's Potential Candidates for South Carolina
They mentioned five potential candidates in today's story: *Ashley Chastain, Charlotte head coach - personally I think she's frontrunner per my post last night *Steve Singleton, Texas associate head coach - "He has done an incredible job in Austin... He’s been instrumental in the offensive productivity of the Longhorns’ underclassmen that helped Texas to a national runner-up finish." *J.T. D’Amico, Georgia assistant coach - "He has been at Georgia since 2022 and spent 13 seasons on staff at Washington before he arrived in Athens. He prides himself in defense, which South Carolina has been very good at in recent years." *Ashley Waters, Boston University head coach - "She has done an incredible job with the Terriers. In nine seasons, Waters has reached the NCAA Tournament six times." *Jordan Clark, FAU head coach - "Clark had done a tremendous job in two years at Florida Atlantic. She led the Owls back to the postseason in 2024 and she worked the transfer portal really well to fill holes in the lineup." I am fine with them choosing anyone on that list...lol ** Edited by VTChip at 6/9/2024, 2:09:01 PM

Certainly a lot of smoke around Ashley Chastain from Charlotte
She's done a great job at Charlotte and Chastain pitched for three seasons at South Carolina, leading the team in starts, innings pitched, and ERA during her junior season. She was a three-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll. She served as a graduate assistant coach for South Carolina following her playing career. She is engaged to the Charlotte baseball coach Robert Woodard, so potentially this could work out for her both personally and professionally since Charlotte to Columbia is less than an hour and a half. South Carolina also has an opening for a baseball coach, a golf coach, and a track and field coach. ** Edited by VTChip at 6/9/2024, 1:16:09 AM

I would rather coach at Auburn vs SC and timing of this is strange
If Pete isn’t leaving for Auburn, I’m sure as heck not leaving for SC. Why did it take so long to fire her, why not do it after regionals? Not quite on the level of Seth Greenberg getting fired super late after the season, timing is still odd.

They should call Auburn - hell Auburn has a spare head coach! :-)

Wow. Seems very premature. But I don't know all the facts.

First reaction is "CRAP"! Another HC position opens up close to Georgia.

USC
Although USC AD Ray Tanner is another "Big Diamond" guy, don't look for any 'impact' hire here. Like Auburn, who obviously hired 'on the cheap' there is no real urgency or ($$$) at USC to significantly upgrade their softball program. Look for another current, no power 5 head coaching experience assistant coach, or mid major coaching 'phenom' to 'lead' this program out of the SEC bottom half of the league. The 'talent pool' of available, interested, and competent program builders is extremely shallow, and very expensive. Stay tuned, Tanner will show everyone, like the Auburn AD did with his hire, that it's 'Only Softball'.

Hope you’re right. As long as they leave Pete alone

USCe softball is similar to its football program. It stinks !
