Admission Questions
#1 Will there be a special admission policy for the regional tournament?
#2 If yes, when will we know the policy?
#3 If there is a special admission policy, what is a good guess as to what it will be that weekend?
#4 Will there be a charge for admission to the games?
Some of us have to travel for longer distances than some people to get to the games. We would need to know the policy.
Thank you for any information.

Friday
Gm 1 : sometime 2-4 PM
Gm 2: sometime 6 pm - 8 start
Sat
Gm 3: winners of Game 1 & 2 (noon)
Gm 4: losers of 1&2 (30 min after game 3)
Gm 5: winner gm 4 vs loser gm 3
Sun
Gm 6: winner Gm 3 vs winner gm 5
Gm 7: if necessary only if winner gm5 wins gm 6
I imagine there will be an all tournament “book†of Tix but also daily Tix available. That may depend on how many all tournament “books†are sold

TV will massage some times to have games going all day.

4 is less likely in EDT zone though for game 1
Host team still may be late game even through they’re 1 seed, often are…to maximize Friday attendance for the host’s game I envision our first NCAA game starting somewhere between 5-7 PM

Chicken Hill. I’ve seen a couple tailgates pop up behind the softball park around that lot for both UVA & UofL

There will certainly be a charge - NCAA policy.
I would think tickets would be for sale on the HokieSports website.
Based on past regionals that I've attended (Kentucky, Arizona State, and UCLA), I don't know that there is preference to the home team, but I could be totally wrong.
I doubt that you will see anything until the actual bids go out, but that again is just a guess on my part.
These are ALL simply my opinions - I could be in left field and usually am.

VT won’t have to hear back from season ticket holders. UT usually gives season ticket holders 1 or 2 days to reserve their seat(s) and then open to the public.

My prediction: they'll actually get temporary bleachers installed in time, but they'll do all the ticketing solely through some dysfunctional app. And we'll see dozens of angry posts here from diehard VT softball fans that can't get in the gates while those bleachers sit mostly unused.
Hope I'm wrong.

Take a potshot at Whit BEFORE anything has happened on this subject. I guess it makes you feel better.
What a negative attitude. Goodness.
You could have just as easily taken a positive view of the wonderful things happening with the this pending event for VT Softball.
I think I'll wait to see what happens before assuming the worst. Hoping most Tech fans will do the same.
Sorry for the rant. Probably shouldn't even post this. I just get tired of posters coming up with negative slants on things that should just be fun for VT fans... just to come up with negative slants.
Hokie Proud. All the Time. Period.

'Negative Visualization' is the key to both preparedness and happiness:
"It’s what the Stoics call, “the premeditation†– that there’s actually a lot of peace of mind to be gained in thinking carefully and in detail and consciously about how badly things could go. In most situations you’re going to discover that your anxiety or your fears about those situations were exaggerated."
Or as TSL board denizens would call it, "Reverse Mojo".

Info most likely won’t be made public until after the selection show next Sunday. My guess is tickets will have to be ordered through the ticket office and probably will be general admission. Hokie Club priority might be considered in the ticket issuing/availability process but they won’t have much time to deal with it.
Worse case is it could be a real 💩 show.

They’ve been planning for this for over a year. Will there be first time learnings/growing pains? I expect so. But if you’re truly wanting to go, if you keep tabs on HokieSports.com and here after the show on May 15, there will be info on when Tix are on sale. If we don’t have enough space? That’d be a good thing but frankly? I was disappointed in the crowd for Saturday’s UofL game and it was a beautiful sunny Saturday with free admission. The bleachers filled up yes but didn’t stay completely full throughout. There will be more seating coming in. How much I don’t know but I expect capacity to be nearly double what the current grandstand has
What would be worse? Not getting in or being embarrassed that fans of #2 in the country can’t fill all of the temporary seats?
Like I said, that’d be a GOOD problem if it sells out but don’t freak out about something in anticipation of a worst case scenario

that the demand for tickets exceeds the maximum capacity even with the additional seats. Not that VT won't be able to sellout the game.

Only way it’s a “worst case†imo is if they don’t add concession options…they also should fence a path to the restrooms behind Thompson field too, as supplemental to what’s in Rector lobby
(In response to this post by VTHokie2000)

season long supporter is at risk to being turned away. If the game isn't sold out, then people like william floyd aren't at risk of being turned away as stated in the OP.

The team, D'Amour, the Chips (Grubbs), and Arthur have started something big. Big mo should push it to a class venue and reasonably priced admission. Heck, I would bet we fans could "raise the barn" for softball. Someone start designing the facelift and expansion.

Not optimal but close.
(In response to this post by william floyd)

might be better options because the technology is already in place at both places. I'm not sure how much technology would need to be brought in to Rector Field House. Plus, what happens if Rector Field House isn't able to meet the demand and people are still turned away?
(In response to this post by TomTurkey)

to tap into potential new donors too. If the fans have a "good/great experience," then they may be willing to help financially support the softball team going forward. The more money raised for the softball program potentially means more money that VT could re-allocate to other areas of needs/importance.

FWIW, we watched VT at Bama in Cassell the first days of my freshman year (70). The cigarette smoke was so heavy it affected seeing the game. We got crushed.
(In response to this post by VTHokie2000)

figure things out moving forward, the non-revenue sports may be the deciding factor on just how "serious" a school is about wanting to participate in the top model. For a school like VT, it may even mean becoming more depended on the financial support of its fan base which could include hosting more viewing parties for significant events (like the Alabama game you attended at Cassell as a freshmen). Yeah I know VT is competing with the comforts of watching the event at home or attending someone else's viewing party, but VT will need to figure that problem out if it truly wants to tap into the full potential of its fan base.

I believe they are bringing in extra seating, so hopefully there are enough seats for all that wish to come to the games.
(In response to this post by william floyd)

the capacity with the additional seats. At least for a Saturday game because you could see people from NOVA or the 757 decide they want to attend the game on short notice. It could happen with a Sunday game too assuming it is in the early afternoon to give people plenty of time to drive back home after it.
(In response to this post by RJHokie)

of a missed opportunity. Not only will VT potentially rub people, who supported the team all season, the wrong way, VT will also miss out on potentially adding new supporters who may have never attended a game before because they live far away from Blacksburg.
(In response to this post by william floyd)
4y
And just like any other event there will be a maximum capacity most likely. Maybe they sell SRO Tix…that’s possible too depending upon where they erect the temporary fencing and admission gates
(In response to this post by VTHokie2000)
4y
where the demand greatly exceeds the maximum capacity. The alienation of the excess in demand is the "missed opportunity." Since we don't know who will end in that group, I'm assuming it is likely both season long supporters and potential new fans.

Control.
If someone gets left out? It probably means they’re late to the bandwagon anyway

on short notice. Plus, just because someone living in NOVA or the 757 isn't able to attend regular season games for whatever reason, it doesn't mean they haven't been supporters or long time supporters of the program.
Even if someone is "late to the bandwagon," it may still be bad business to turn them away particularly since they are potential new donor source for the program. Given all the changes occurring in collegiate athletics now, it is possible (maybe even likely) that programs will become a little more depended on donors to help fund their program. At least the model where the revenue generated from football to fund all the other programs may no longer be a viable model in this new era of collegiate athletics. It will also give people like VTChip opportunities to help bring in additional revenue to the program(s) they are passionate about.

Given there will be a maximum capacity at the games, what happens if the demand for tickets exceeds said capacity? The "missed opportunity" is turning those people away instead of figuring out a way to let them attend the game(s). What I'm suggesting is to not have a maximum capacity because VT doesn't know who will end up in the group of excess demand so it is likely it will include both season long supporters and new fans.

How can there be no max capacity?
(In response to this post by VTHokie2000)
4y
have a max capacity. Given where Tech Softball Park is located on campus, there are places for people to either stand or bring a lawn chair to sit and still watch the game. So let them do it as long as they are willing to pay admission to game.

I’d guess that same space will be used or obstructed if that’s the case
I doubt very seriously that if someone can find an unobstructed view from outside the park somewhere that they’ll be ran off. The same is possible with baseball and I’ve never seen a problem.
I’m not trying to argue with you. Just seems that we came to a conclusion that it was going to be all messed up and people would be upset before we ever really know anything …
It’s all good. Hope they get it right. More than anything just hope the ladies keep winning.

where 1 of the bullpens is located, the grassy area on the other side of Spring Road in front of Lane Stadium, and along the outfield fence where the trees are located. I believe the grassy area by the 3rd base bullpen is too steep for the temporary bleachers. At least I'm expecting the temporary bleachers to be placed in between the trees along the outfield fence or the outfield fence close to where the 1st base bullpen is located. Heck you could even temporary close Spring Road to create a temporary standing area for the game.
