Big 12 right now. Of course,things can change. I follow a lot of different people/podcasts with various levels of knowledge. The Big 12 is what I hear almost exclusively.

for what most benefits the B12. Their idea they can be a 3rd real power conference is more far fetched than the Big and SEC getting into a bidding war to add VT.
As an example how many of them say that UNC and UVA can "bring" NC or VA? You know that is a pile of hooheel hooy.

nothing to another conference from a football standpoint. But,the SEC,for example,does not seem overly concerned about that. It seems they may want to bring UVA in to upgrade the academics of the conference plus basketball. UVA would not be a top choice,but would be behind programs like UNC and Clemson. In football,UVA would be the Vanderbilt of the conference.

4 Conference Champions, 1 G5 Champion and 7 at-large bids. Not sure how much more fair that can be.
VT has as good a post-season shot in that scenario than they do in the P2 the next two seasons. If I have any reservations, it's that the ACC is never getting two playoff participants. But as history has shown, if you can't win the ACC you probably don't deserve a bid anyway.

I get it that your goal is the SEC but if it doesn’t work out, we'd love to have you. GREAT rivalry! I also feel you would make the conference better as well.

No one knows what's going to happen.
Tons of people have their own windows of sight into this whole process, and they all think they know what's going to happen, but no one knows what's going to happen.
Eventually, some people will be right, but that doesn't mean their sources or insights were any better than anyone else's. They just got lucky that things unfolded their way.
The thing that gives me the creeps about all of this is that ultimately, the decision makers are university presidents and chancellors. And while some of them know a lot about athletics, most of them don't, and they often make their decisions based on academics (which is stupid when it comes to athletics).

deal was, and they knew it a LONG time ago. That's what really angers me and makes me very sympathetic to FSU's stance.
Also, to get an idea of how completely corrupted our financial system and our country are, it seems quite clear that ESPN (monopoly?) and Fox (duopoly) have extensive market power that they are using. Other businesses get regulated all the time, but somehow ESPN gets away with murder on these deal terms. I'm typically not for regulation, but if not in this case, then when? I really hope that someone finds a way to financially nuke Disney/ESPN.
It looked really obvious to me back in 2011 that VT should have made a move to get the SEC companion spot to A&M over Missouri - which we easily could have done. We had the rare opportunity to jump ahead of FSU, UNC, Clemson and Miami in the pecking order. We didn't make that play and now we are behind them in the order.
Even if you say that no one had a crystal ball, now that these facts are coming out about Raycom and ESPN, it looks really damning how this was handled. What I thought was a terrible decision now looks much more terrible.

the B10, which has been floated lately, and also it seems that the recent rumblings seem to suggest a bigger expansion pool to the B10 and SEC, then maybe more than 5 or 6 spots come open? If so, then VT should land in a good spot. That's what I'm hoping for (but don't really understand) is what is the catalyst to get the B10 and SEC to jump to somewhere around 24 schools each. It would seem that additions other than FSU, UNC, Notre Dame and maybe Clemson and Miami become dilutive. Maybe some existing schools get jettisoned or maybe basketball or some metric such as cable homes per state flip the script.
But my baseline is that this doesn't look good for VT. I really hate to rely on politicians, but for us to get pulled into the SEC or B10, it will require a sharp-elbowed Houdini act. The school that had been burned by conference membership since the 50s burned their ticket to the SEC in 2011.

so if this is being floated, then it is probably for some non-economic reason, such as trying to tamp down the political anger and backlash. I don't put good odds on VT getting in the P2 based on its revenue addition, so maybe VT can be swept in on some other factor. We could have had this in 2012 and now we are having to rely on a backroom deal. You never want to have to rely on these tactics, but that is where our leadership brought us.

these decisions will be made above the Presidents and Chancellor’s. There is way too much money involved in each state. The politicians are all over this, especially in Virginia.
I will just say this, I like the way ESPN is treating us lately. I don’t think either Tech or UVA will be left out of the P2, but right now the tea leaves are leaning away from Tech going to the B1G (I don’t feel the same about UVA). Consequently, I am not surprised he is rumoring the B12.
That said, remember 2003, things can change in an instant, so I am not guaranteeing anything.

First place is a tie:
1) Most academic people want B1G
1) Most Athletic people want the SEC because Lane will be off the hook for every SEC game and they are closer for other sports
3) Stay with remaining ACC, it will still have some good football schools and it’s much more like minded academically, and other sports than the B12. I am good with SMU, but not the California Schools, it’s just too far. However, Phillips move on this saved the Conference if the Mag 7 leave. IMHO they grab UCONN, USF, Tulane, Rice and become the Academic Conference of Champions with mainly basketball first schools.

ACC implodes,ESPN will renegotiate money down. So,VT would get less money than they do now. They would get a bigger payout in,say,the Big 12 although not nearly as much as in the Big 10 or SEC.

+ or - of the B12 contract, no one is going anywhere. If ESPN is dangling more money for one or the other conference, things could get dicey.
The Only way VT, or any other ACC schools ends up in the B12, will be determined by ESPN, not by academics, not by geography, not by what would be good for any school or conference. It will come down to what is good for ESPN.
