How do you think this 17/18 team ACC will work?
Football- So many questions and possibilities. How will it affect ND rotation? Stanford is not on ND’s schedule after next year. Will ND add a sixth game? I also think the ACC should reconsider it’s protected rivals. The 3-5-5 model will need to be thrown out. Maybe adopting something similar to the Big Ten’s Flex model will work better where you play 0-3 rivals yearly. Tech plays UVA, Hoos play Tech and Carolina, Cal plays Stanford, FSU and Miami, etc. Some would play three rivals such as Carolina with UVA, NC State and Duke. Louisville and SMU should have no permanent rivals similar to Penn State in the Big Ten.
Basketball looks more simple. Play everyone once then play three rivals annually or three teams the ACC chooses yearly.

2 pod + 3 rotating pod + final week pairing* + 3 power 4 games**
* for top 3, this is conference semi-final for three division winners plus top runner up. Everyone else, paired by finish and no repeat. Only division games count. Would need to figure out home/away. This would give ND just their 5 games plus last week matchup (potentially semifinal) along with chance to win ACC championship while barely moving off their current commitment.
** for many ACC teams, this would be three non conference counting ACC matchups (for volume and to help protect rivalries). But would also include such matches as CU vs USC, LU vs UK, etc toward this commitment. ND would not be required.

ESPN could pay conference more for some years an extra ND game (last week when away) and a potentially more valuable championship game.

They will add a sixth ACC game but not change the current schedules. They will just add home and homes with Cal, Stanford and SMU over six years. SMU home game at Jerry’s World. After that the ACC will be dead.

Adding three schools that don't care about football means the ACC's next TV contract will be even further away from the P2. If you noticed, they added schools that care about football. That means their future TV contracts will go up.

it is that people care about their football. UCF cares about football, no one that watches football cares about UCFs football. We don't care about football tends to be the result of not being any good at football, like the Hoos. When they have a little success, they suddenly seem to care..I know there aren't a lot of data points to prove that, but there are a couple over the last century.

aren’t it. I do think if Jim Phillips had not been sitting on his hands either trying to get the B1G Commissioner job again or just longing for the way it used to be, we could have gotten some good football schools like WVU and Cincinnati. Now he’s going after the left overs that neither the B1G for Stanford and Cal or the B12 for SMU wanted, to help keep Notre Dame independent, and we will play under his watch Miami less, ND less, Clemson less and Florida State less than if they never came. That’s going to hurt Virginia Tech’s and other schools ratings, not help them. The last thing we need.
So I am frustrated enough now, that I think the Mag 7 plus should just leave. I don’t think the GOR holds up in court if the majority leave. I have never pulled for the SEC, but at least it’s regional and only 1 hour difference in time. My perfect scenario is Virginia Tech, UVA, UNC and NC State to the SEC, but if that can’t happen, or the B1G, then at least the B12 has football first sports schools, those matchups are better than the ones we have and will get better ratings.
