This seems to be Pitt/Syracuse all over again
Get a marginal $ increase, acquire schools with low tv ratings, and gain conference “security.” On the last part it does from the respect of acquiring votes from the schools who have no other options and will preserve the ACC at all costs. What is good for the ACC is no longer good for many of the member schools. Getting bigger to survive is simpleton thinking. Even with B12’s moves a smaller Pac could have survived if they weren’t shooting for $50M per school. This is “fan talk” but the VT admin’s approach/vote here looks poor. Our pool of schools in the “Fan 4-Pack” (cheap tickets for games against undesireable opponents) will certainly expand with this move.

The ACC wanted a Network. Having Pennsylvania and New York made that work.
Pitt recently won the ACC Football Championship, and Syracuse has given the ACC visibility in New York especially for basketball. I don't think there are any regrets with those additions. I would have preferred WVU over Louisville, but by the time Maryland informed the ACC it was going to leave, WVU wasn't available. So we got Louisville.

We have 13 years before we should worry about tv ratings.
By then everything will be completely different. One trip to CA per sport isn't going to bankrupt anyone. Just enjoy the variety.

I doubt the 13 years part. That variety is taking the place
of some desireable games on our schedule some years. Look no further than the differing ticket prices. Those three schools will be in low demand. The ACC minus (Clemson, FSU, 1 or 2 others) could potentially add some desirable B12 parts and be a #3. Now with two small fan bases in CA I see that less of a possibility. Way too many tiny fanbase mouths to feed. It won’t remain like this for 13 years.

I don't think anyone is looking at this as a save-the-conference move.
[EDIT: meant for Colonel Jessup above, oops, sorry.] It, along with many other things, might help us survive until 2036. I'm not gung ho for the deal, but I'm ok with it. One big difference between the Pitt/Syracuse add and the Cal/Stanford add is that I think that when the prior were added, most still had hopes that the ACC would be able to stay on the same plain as the B1G, SEC and even Pac-12 at the time. Well, all pretense of that is now gone. Now it's just a matter of trying to pick up a few (million) bucks here or there until this marathon TV contract runs out. And like 4x4hokies said below, I will enjoy the variety. But in terms of value to the conference, you are correct. It's probably about the same as Pitt and Syracuse. I will say this in defense of Pitt and Syracuse though. At least they bring big states for the ACCN. Ditto for SU/Cal and SMU. ** Edited by Maroon Baboon at 8/24/2023, 12:36:24 PM

I Think ACC Expansion is All About Keeping Stanford Viable As a Major
College. On the athletic front as well as academically. Cannot have any single BILLION of any of those Research Grants endangered in a G5. Of course Jim Phillips was well financially compensated regarding his input towards directing this round of ACC expansion. When I saw George W. Bush involved, I knew ACC expansion had got real nasty. Him & poppy Bush were heinous people. Don't ask me to elaborate on that. I will get sick if that weasel starts getting involved in SEC matters. You never know with the Longhorns coming into the SEC. The door has now been opened by the SEC into that gigantic state, all the good & bad..

To use your word heinous…your post above was
Heinous! I usually enjoy your posts but you are way off base…and the rules are no politics but …I have very close fam friends that were very very close with who you call Poppy to the tune of being invitees to fam events in Tx and Mass & on Boards. Your comment is unnecessary and added zero value to the issue. Of course perhaps you want to get into Arkansas related politicians if you’re going to break the rules? 🤔😉🤫🤣. Don’t need you to elaborate & don’t care.

Your Reply Shows a Heinous Lack of Knowledge Concerning Real World Events
They are not philanthropist .He knocked down hell's door. My post had nothing to do with comparing Arkansas & Texas politics. My post had nothing to with state politics. A crying shame that you cannot see beyond that elemental level. I cannot enlighten anyone here. The whole internet is being whitewashed with censorship. You like whoever the hell you want. I will do the same. Enjoy your disgusting naivety. Stop insulting people's intelligence. Do some research besides listening to the local & national mainstream news. I guess you will soon be wearing your little face diaper just like they tell you. Take your VAX too.
