The FSU board is a clown show
I'm pretty sure Clemson has the same concerns but conduct themselves much more appropriately.

FSU brings to mind the phrase “Buy ‘em for what I think they’re worth…
and sell ‘em for what THEY think they’re worth…” Fortunes would be made! ** Edited by ombandit at 8/21/2023, 8:11:50 AM

Reporting, fwiw, says big ten and sec are not interested in fsu
Not sure if that's because of the gor or if they think other acc schools are more desirable (sec doesn't want another Florida school and big ten wants an aau school). But if true, the combination of huge exit fee, grant of rights and no landing spot seems to make this a big nothing burger

I've been saying it. BIG doesn't need FSU and SEC realizes that not taking
them can crush them athletically ... one less school to recruit against once FSU becomes an also-ran

Any report that says B1G WANTS an AAU school is nonsense
The gaslighting and insecurity here never ceases. It might give preference if all other things are equal. But the B1G will admit members who make the other member schools more money - AAU or not. ** Edited by marcbvtgm at 8/21/2023, 10:03:35 AM

Eh, depends how big Big10 wants to go and if they offer full shares or not
but the reporting, fwiw, says big ten was not interested in fsu

actually their conduct has made them such a bad fit
For Media folks, love it, but in conferences, institutions have to maintain control of the message and speak with one voice and dont go off half cocked by some 'FSU official"... Otherwards in lay people, they do not play well with others... having a trustee conduct a press conference, rather than the president, AD or an official is crazy....... They marginally bring nothing to SEC or BIG 10 and those members certainly dont need that. (in the SEC they got enough egos they maintain well (lets see how Texas deals with that).... I digress.. certainly that conduct is not conducive to Big 10 culture. FSU can whine all they want, but they are stuck.......The President and Board of Trustees need some adult supervision and communicate who is REALLY in charge/???? first.

Drew specifically talked about the long-term effects of the difference in
money between the leagues. And that this has been discussed at the board level at FSU and between the conference members for a while. That FSU is not willing to give up the difference for the next 10+ years. This loss has an impact not only on the athletes at the football level, but other sports (basketball, etc), and even enrollment numbers with the University. Nothing that we didn't already know. Only that a member of the FSU board said it publicly. It just goes back to the point on how are they, as FSU or the league, are going to resolve the situation. Nothing more was said other than they and the other colleges/ACC are trying to figure this out.

Wish Drew would have put Finebaum on the spot and say key influencers in
the sport "like you Paul" are needed to voice the goal of bringing tv revenue relatively equal among conferences so everybody has a chance to compete.

Part of the problem is FSU underperforming for many years.

His logic...the difference in TV income trickles to more NIL. So why
raise hundreds of millions for a settlement payment which goes out the window to all of the other ACC schools? Prior to 2036, it is likely a break even proposition at best. Why not raise it for NIL? Or raise it for the facilities and other programs he says will benefit from more TV money? I'll go back to what I've said before re: FSU's public posture; pay attention to who is doing the talking. If it is Weatherford or Roth, then you know who has to approve the message. Weatherford kisses the ring at the onset of the interview.

I would agree with you that what he said made no sense at all,
unless he truly believes that getting out of the GOR isn’t going to be an issue. Without that belief he really couldn’t have made the statements he made in the Finebaum interview. There is a pattern here with FSU athletic director, FSU President, multiple FSU Board of Trustees’ members all having made similar statements. And as far as his logic about competitiveness, Georgia is 16-0 in regular season conference play over the last two years, and 37-3 in conference play over the last 5 years. It doesn’t look like there was a lot of competition in the SEC in that time period with Georgia winning all but 3 regular season conference games. Weatherford also conveniently forgot to mention that a small private school in Texas beat an undefeated Michigan team from the B1G in the playoffs which is one of the two conferences he is advocating that FSU join to stay competitive.
