What do you think th chances there is a P1 in 5-6 yrs? If so, how many?
As in how many schools will be in a P1? Will they cut current SEC/B1G schools? Will they add some P4’s, if so how many?
Edit: I said we go, but I meant there is a P1, not Virginia Tech in particular getting in it, but will there be a P1 period in 5-6 years?

viewership for the entire bowl season; so whatever they come up for football better figure out how to increase fan interest. i don't think less teams is it. maybe more competitive games and more games that count, and a calendar/system where players aren't opting/portaling out?
basketball averaged 9.4 million/game in rounds 1 and 2. the totality of bowl games, cfp included, was in the mid 4's

Weekend of March 22-23
MARCH MADNESS (MEN): The NCAA men’s basketball tournament is averaging a combined 9.4 million viewers per window across CBS, TBS, TNT and truTV, the highest two-round average since 1993 and up from 9.04 million at the same point last year. (Keep in mind Nielsen did not track out-of-home viewing in its estimates until 2020 and did not do so in 100 percent of markets until earlier this year.)
Sunday’s slate averaged a combined 10.1 million (+13%). The early evening window averaged a combined 15.3 million across CBS, TBS and TNT, followed by the nightcap at 8.0 million on TBS, TNT and truTV — up from 14.9 and 6.7 million respectively last year. Earlier in the day, CBS drew 9.6 million for Duke-Baylor and 7.8 million for Florida-UConn, up from last year’s 8.1 million for Purdue-Utah State and 5.6 million for Marquette-Colorado.

But I see much closer cooperation between the P2 conferences for the next five or six years.
As for Vanderbilt and Northwestern, the big question is whether the P2 will adopt the pro model, under which players would be considered employees and wouldn’t need to take classes. If that happens, Vanderbilt and/or Northwestern might voluntarily leave the P2 and join a conference that sticks to the traditional NCAA model.
Other weaker programs, such as Rutgers and Mississippi State, would stay with (much) reduced payouts for as long as they can. I don’t see them being kicked out within five or six years.

Maybe 10% chance to join the SEC or the P1?
VA is smaller than TX, FL, GA and NC. I don’t see Virginia place more than one school in the P1/P2, and VT’s location doesn’t fit well in a national conference.
A regional conference, where the core schools are located in VA and NC, would work better for VT and I believe that’s one reason why VT tried so hard to get into the ACC.
