ND will be in the B1G, which we all pretty much knew. Probably either in 2024 or 2030-32, whenever the next B1G media deal gets done and the ACC GOR is close to being done. Interesting he threw out 20 as the final number for the B1G and SEC. Interesting he said a number at all, even though he said he had no idea. That's telling. I guess the B1G has to go to 20, because of ND and needing more of a West Coast presence. Then the SEC will just react and take the best in its footprint. 20 is bad for VT. But, it is what it is. Assuming ND + the Pacific 3 are the B1G's 20, the SEC would likely go Clemson, FSU, UNC and UVA to finish off its true SouthEast footprint. (Seems like VT and NCST would be the better fits for the SEC, but what do I know...)

If 20 is the magic number then the ACC needs 6 more. No better time than now to make it happen. But will they? I keep thinking about the ACC commish comments about everyone needing to play nice with each other. That kind of language is not a good sign. It displays weakness and defeat. So if I had to predict the future I think the ACC gets poached of several top schools. But the ACC survives as a smaller and weaker second tier “power” conference.

I will point out that there will be congressional interest in both of those future scenarios and 32, 40, and maybe even 48 schools at the top may not be enough to get the legislative support they need. I also thought it was interesting that he didn't see a complete breakaway; so the Trans Comm work may actually be meaningful. And in his sequence, CFP would follow. If the top end football group stays in the NCAA, look for conferences to double down on securing access to the playoff...and a 16 team playoff takes no more weekends to play than the 12 he prefers. cville, are you comparing just the two football programs? The most attractive expansion target for The SEC is UNC. There's a small gap between them and number 2, UVa. If The SEC were able to add those two schools, they might just stop right there. Nobody else adds enough juice to The SEC footprint. Here's what matters: Football program -100% Basketball program - 100% Media market - 100% Fanbase - 100% TV viewers 100% Academic reputation - 100% New cable subscribers - 100% Feel free to add to the list. I could go on. But having a strong FB program will not move VT ahead of UVa in the expansion sweepstakes. Fans have their own ideas about what programs would be the best adds. But fans don't consider the bottom line for both the conference making the add nor the media provider. My opinion on this is no better than yours, I'm guessing just like everybody else.

The only thing that matters is which school is UNC's little buddy. That's really it. You could have stopped after the first line.

UNC is clearly #1. The VT brand is OK but not great. Assuming that teams find a way to leave the ACC - I dont see any scenario where VT to the B1G happens. So, if you are a VT fan you have to hope and pray to the Baby Football Jesus that the B1G raids the ACC and grabs UNC, UVA, Duke and whoever. And that the SEC has to react and take VT, NC St, Maimi, FSU, Clem, whoever. Problem is if SEC stops at (20) than I think VT is playing in the Canadian Football League.

So UNC is #4 and they stay rigid with UVA and VT gets in over UNC alongside Clemson, FSU and Miami.

UCF beat Florida in bowl game and look at Cincinnati's success last year. They see and know this is happening. To counter this from happening, we are awarded with the NIL because they know all schools and teams do not have money streams that can compare with their big money bags. Be real, they've been doing the NIL for decades and now it's ok. The only thing that changed that they are using it to get recruits to commit to them. And just to attempt to nail the nail in the coffin, they develop the Super Conference idea and put it motion!! Follow The Money And Arrogance!!!!

Texas Tech, a non-Power 2 school, has already committed to paying its 100 football players $25,000/year. If Tech ends up doing the same, then schools in the $EC and B16 will likley be paying double.
