Congratulations to the Big 12 and the Pac 12 others for not sitting around
CBS (Dennis Dodd) is reporting that the Big 12 is considering adding 6 Pac-12 schools to go to 18. The article is linked below. What is interesting is that it would take some of the players off of the table for Big 10 expansion while making the Big 12 now the clear #3 in the conference derby. The interesting quote was "all options are on the table". Wow...what a concept!
I am glad that someone is being proactive because I am sure not seeing it from anyone in the ACC.

Then then Big Ten's focus moves back east if they desire 20.
After reading numerous ACC and SEC message boards, it's assumed that the B1G would want (1) Notre Dame, (2) UNC, (a distant 3) UVA (only because of AAU) and one of these 3 (Georgia Tech, Clemson or FSU). The SEC's top choices are (1) FSU, (2) Clemson, (3) UNC, (4) Miami. Tech comes in 5th followed by Louisville and NC State. That's the consensus outside of Hokie Nation. Rumors have Clemson already talking to the Big Ten but I expect we'lll hear and read rumors about every ACC school in discussions with the B1G and SEC this summer and beyond. Everyone has their opinions on this and one day 99.9% of us will be surprised at the unexpected announcement of some team(s) joining the B1G/SEC.

This would probably be a bargain for CBS compared to what they would have had to pay to keep the SEC. Remember these aren’t Conferences anymore, these are TV Alliances.

I don’t understand why. It’s a garbage conference with Texas and Oklahoma gone. Makes me wonder if CBS wants to put a bid on the Big XII rights with a PAC flavor.
They can televise Oklahoma St vs Utah and say the winner should be one of the national title favorites and everybody watching would eat it up.

The Big10 and SEC are leveraging their existing and new expected payouts, which were probably already formulaically in motion. The ACC, assuming it can dissolve and join some PAC and Big12 has a lot of value... but how much value does CBS, or Amazon, or someone else pay? To make it Clemson's, FSU or Notre Dame's interest, you have to approach what the Big10 or SEC are getting... and that likely requires unequal distributions - and how do you negotiate all that with multiple conferences and a television network. You really need some high level brokers to have all these conversations to navigate the complexity and protect the schools from having to reveal their ask/sell price.

I’m guessing ND is on a very short clock with the ACC right now. Hard to
play chess while that is up in the air. Especially if it will involve uneven payouts if they join the ACC in full.

is ND and the ACC are the only folks possibly running on a long clock. I certainly dont expect things to remain static until the GOR burns off, but I fail to see much reason with the exception of the CFP format's need to be renegotiate, for anything to happen in the next 2-3 years. I mean there are a LOT of moving parts beyond expansion . And acting hastily isnt always a recipe for success. I mean dont you thing the Big XII would like a redo with their 4 team expansion now that the whole PAC 12 minus UCLA/USC has opened up? I dont see how the ACC would be in worse place 2-3 years from now than today- and it may have better options. Who knows. As to ND, the BIG will wait as long as they want if that is ultimately their jam.

Notre Dame has more leverage that the ACC. If the ACC could force ND's hand, they would have done so long ago.
Notre Dame has time on their side, as they are unlikely to get left out. This is especially true if these large conferences scrap divisions, like the ACC. Without divisions, there is no impractical cap to the number of teams, and since ND will likely increase each team's payout, they are essentially in the driver's seat.

On paper, the Pac-12 inviting the ACC schools could allow for the ACC to dissolve and, most importantly, terminate its current under-market value contract with ESPN. The newly expanded Pac-12 could then immediately go to the market for media rights negotiations.

in football only. The top 12 of the 24 teams would be an extremely attractive conference as long as that includes Oregon and Washington still. The promotion/relegation aspect would be exciting to watch. It may seem like a crazy idea but desperate times…

Yes! If the ACC/PAC/BXIII did it, not only would it be far more exciting
than the status quo in college football, but it would expose the anti-competitive nature of the B1G and SEC duopoly.
You could so think in three tiers if you want to all but get rid of the OOC (1 OOC game). Or, you could do four tiers, w/4 OOC games.
OR, you could divide into East and West, and have two tiers on each side and play a championship game for both tiers the status quo in college football, but it would expose the anti-competitive nature of the B1G and SEC duopoly.
You could so think in three tiers if you want to all but get rid of the OOC (1 OOC game). Or, you could do four tiers, w/4 OOC games.
OR, you could divide into East and West, and have two tiers on each side and play a championship game for both tiers.
There's many different ways that this could be done. But there will need to be incentive to the schools that think they will start off in or end up in the bottom tier. OTOH, it's time to have some straight talk with some of these programs who have no shot at a B1G and SEC invite.
