The B12 got it done on the field with TCU staying undefeated, having entertaining games with the conference matchups, and their expansion teams doing well this year. And the PAC is unfortunately having a great year in the polls but two of their top teams are gone and the other two top teams are clearly being targeted by other conferences. The PAC was too slow to act and now they have no negotiating power. They are done as a P5 conference is where I'm putting my prediction money.

And then after losing USC / UCLA, they should have expanded with SDSU and another school even before beginning media rights negotiations. I agree that the PAC-12 is moving too slow and is now in a fight for its survival. The Big Ten meeting with Oregon and Washington really destabilized the conference and greatly weakened the PAC-12’s negotiating position.

As soon as the PAC-12 announced that they weren’t interested in expansion, the Big 12 quickly invited Cincinnati, BYU, Houston, and UCF. Conference stability has been improving since that date and now the Big 12 has a 6 year contract extension. It is my understanding that all of the members have agreed to a grant of rights and they reportedly also have expansion provisions included.

Oklahoma State and Texas Tech are the lite version of their respective big brothers that are heading to the SEC. Even Iowa State and Kansas State are probably lite versions too. While WVU is too far away to join the Pac-12. Before you suggest Baylor and TCU, they aren't even an option due to their religious affiliations. It is possible the Pac-12 should have added Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma St, and Texas Tech. I do understand why the Pac-12 didn't consider adding all them or any of them. It is even possible none of the Big XII schools were interested in joining the Pac-12 because of the travel issues (specifically the change in time zones). The Big XII schools may prefer traveling East-West instead of West-East went returning from an away game particularly during the week.

That makes expansion almost certain for Yormark. If Fox & ESPN settle on an early departure for TX/OK it will have to be a cash deal, I guess. I agree with you that Big 12 expansion certainly seems likely now unless the PAC-12 can get a lucrative deal through ESPN and/or several streaming services. I am not so sure that ESPN likes the idea of sharing media rights with streaming services which have the potential to raise the value of those rights over time significantly because of their deep pockets (Amazon & Apple). The last report I saw had Fox not interested in the PAC-12 and ESPN low balling their offer. The Presidents of the PAC-12 schools are meeting this week to discuss media rights negotiations.
