That is basically the breakaway eight.
With Louisville and Pitt added back.
I agree that is a better situation for that group than what we currently have (eight or ten team version).
Unfortunately, that sort of breakaway is really hard to do.
The old Big East should have done it, IMO. If they had, they might still be considered a P6 level conference. It could have been the original eight, minus Temple (horrid attendance) and plus UConn (actually pretty good back then). Add in Louisville and UCF (IIRC the two best nearby lower-level teams back then) then that group would have been really appealing.
