You are right on,.. something is happening
They had ACC winter meetings 1-2 weeks ago...(of course press release happy happy glad glad) from the commissioner's office. I'm sure that the money situation was discussed and I dont think that Clemson and FSU got their way, and was reported back to their leadership and we are NOW getting drama.
ACC is very risk adverse. They are living and dying the GOR. Most of the membership knows the GOR and ESPN contract sucks however, they know that the GOR is the only thing that keeps the conference together.
I dont know legally, but is the GOR bound for the 14/15 teams and if expansion occurs, the members just sign up as a new member or does the membership has to renew an amended document. (and if so, could you trust clemson and FSU to renew or see it as an option to bolt)
no one trusts no one. but I really like the PAC ACC merger concur.
I dont know if ESPN would buy it in their financial environment . (They love the current acc contract, and i think espn would agree with merger with the PAC 12 but they would pony up with the PAC 12 folks the same money as the ACC members 35 million and say that's it. (350,000,000 outlay)
I dont see them ponying up 55 million for 14 members of the ACC (acc members get a 20 million plus up) and 10 members of the PAC 10 (55 million dollar per team). that would be extra 1,110,000 espn outlay.
but we can hope.
