Contracts can always be renegotiated, and if one party is unwilling to re-negotiate, then it could be the demise of future relationships, or even lead to expensive lawsuits for no other reason than to untangle the handcuffs. These strategies works as long as it isn't a monopoly or possibly a duopoly, which is the risk point you raise since it currently smells like a duopoly with the SEC and B10, and FOX and ESPN. Maybe external pressure, or at least the threat, can be leveraged from another source on the demand side (Amazon/etc), or from the supply side (eg: Oregon, Washington, California, Colorado, Arizona, UNC, FSU, Clemson, Kansas, Va Tech, UVA, Miami, Arizona, Texas Tech, WVU, Duke). The problem is it's always been each supply entity looking out solely for itself, as it's incredibly difficult to coordinate transparently amongst a large group if the WF, Duke, BC's, etc would be left out. At that point, best to defect as a party of 2 (TX and OU, or USC and UCLA)... and let the rest figure out their own security for themselves.
