Brenden Jones, the House’s Republican majority leader and a lead sponsor of the bill. ... “I think it should be said as well that I hope UNC and NC State are never in separate conferences, and if the Big Ten or SEC were to ever invite either State or Carolina, this bill would indicate that they are a package deal,” Jones said. The bill doesn’t stipulate that the schools remain in the same conference. If a conference were required to take both schools, it may be a dealbreaker. ___ This may be a significant development. If UNC doesn’t have any say regarding its tag-along, then I think the Big Ten would want UNC plus a Florida school, while the SEC would take UNC plus a Virginia school. If UNC chooses the Big Ten, the SEC won’t expand in my opinion. If UNC and a Virginia school go to the SEC, then the Big Ten will target two of FSU, Miami and Clemson.
