I kinda low-key want SMU in the conference.

I speak mostly as a fan in this, but the price might be right, too. 1. I have Pony Express nostalgia. 2. I think SMU got the raw deal with the Death Penalty, and they never recovered fully. Not that they didn't deserve punishment. But you can't tell me they were any worse than a number of SWC and SEC teams. So I am somewhat empathetic to their cause. 3. I kinda respect a school willing to buy its way in and have an ex-US president call to see how he can help. Gotta respect the hustle. Yeah, it's kinda gangster. But the ACC could use a little of that. 4. Texas. New places and faces. And perhaps recruiting. 5. I think their school and fans would be happy to be here. I don't know if I can say the same about the Stanford faithful (only had a former Secretary of State call. Pfft.). Side note: I think the ACC as we know it is toast on or before 2036. So accepting SMU or Stanford or the other Pac-4 isn't going to be a game changer either way. So I'd prefer to have a little fun. Side note number 2: If we are going to bother with Stanford and I assume Cal, we might as well look at Oregon State and Wazzu too. SU and UC will need travel partners. And I wouldn't mind having the Beavs in the Cougs in the conference either. I always kinda liked those two.

I don't want any more private schools in the ACC...

Under normal circumstances, I'd agree with you. But these aren't normal

#5 is key. You want schools that are excited to be in the conference.

6. Adding SMU and not Stanford would irritate the desired parties**

Are the ACC Presidents Going to Keep Late Hours on a Friday Zoom Call to

I'm leaning that way. If we add those schools and stand pat until 2036,

ACC needs to have presence in Texas at this point.

Tulane was one of my side-teams last year. Really enjoyed watching them.
Maroon Baboon 08/18/23 05:48 PM ET
That's why I suggest Tulane verses second from Texas
HOO86 08/19/23 03:13 PM ET
If Memphis makes the ACC money, I would add them.
Maroon Baboon 08/19/23 04:05 PM ET
Agreed. Been saying it for years.
HOO86 08/19/23 04:21 PM ET
IMHO, ESPN doesn’t wont pay for schools, they have Texas & Louisiana in SEC
Stech 08/19/23 08:49 PM ET
I'd rather add Oregon St. For some reason SMU reminds me of Miami
HokieNoVA 08/18/23 02:19 PM ET
These three are better than anyone else that has been floated. Perhaps they

Adding Stanford, Cal and SMU...

How many conferences have actually broken up? Even CUSA survived.
4x4hokies 08/18/23 03:20 PM ET
Maybe so?
Old Line Hokie 08/18/23 04:07 PM ET
LOL where are we going if the ACC breaks up?**
BROman Hokie 08/18/23 02:48 PM ET
LOL. No where at the moment.
Old Line Hokie 08/18/23 03:03 PM ET
Good. We want the acc to continue **

#3 I completely agree. ACC needs some edge to it
HokieAl 08/18/23 01:20 PM ET
They got what they deserved, others like Miami didn't
