I am constantly amused by the FSU to the B1G rumors

Seems like every day on Twitter I see some rumor about how Florida State is going to manipulate itself out of the ACC and leap into the loving arms of the Big Ten, which purportedly otherwise has no plan to expand anytime soon unless Notre Dame became available. There are so many things wrong with this idea that it makes all the sparring between the Big 12 and Pac 12-2 folks look sensible. FSU in the Big Ten is like eating catfish and grits in Chicago. It just doesn't seem logical. Granted, the B1G has thrown geography and adjacent states out the window with the addition of USC and UCLA, but that's for the benefit of gaining a foothold in Los Angeles which, last time I checked, has never been confused with Tallahassee. Geographically, it makes far more sense for the B1G to pick up a couple more Pac 12-2 schools than to dip into Florida, which is already full of B1G alums and transplants from the midwestern tundra. People are already watching BTN in Florida, I would imagine. I would argue that the B1G is better served to grab schools from Virginia and/or North Carolina. And the USC/UCLA strategy would seemingly put Georgia Tech in play ahead of a school in the Florida panhandle. FSU is a respectable school but it is nothing particularly special where academics are concerned. As I see it, FSU academics fall short of UNC, UVa, VT, NCSU, Duke, GT and Pitt just among those ACC schools that have at least a remote shot at getting into the B1G. To me, FSU academics are clearly superior only to Louisville among ACC schools and about on par with Clemson. I've never met a doctor or engineer or scientist who went to FSU. FSU would say it has a bigger brand and draws better television audiences than most. That may be true, but is anyone really going to tune in to see FSU play schools from the north with whom it has no relationship? Putting aside games played against Maryland while the Terps were in the ACC, FSU has never played any B1G school more than Nebraska, and those 8 games are all bowl games or games played in Lincoln back when Bobby Bowden went barnstorming to building the FSU program. FSU has played the Buckeyes, Nittany Lions and Wolverines three times apiece, and never in Tallahassee. People tune in to watch compelling matchups. I just don't see how FSU can contribute to compelling matchups when it has no rivalries with existing B1G schools. It's fine to say that FSU-Ohio State would make good television, but Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State and USC can only play so many rivalry games and made-for-TV games. I don't see people getting fired up to see FSU-Wisconsin or FSU-Iowa, even if those would be good games. The Twitter talk is that FSU is angling to get out of the ACC sooner rather than later. How that could happen is beyond my conception. Some say ESPN and Disney would help FSU so as to get a piece of the Big Ten schedule. But that means devaluing their investment in the ACC Network just when it is getting started. Some say the Florida government will facilitate a move. This is the same Florida government that is currently in a huge political fistfight with Disney. I have nothing against FSU. But the more I read about FSU-to-the-B1G, the more I think FSU folks have an ego like Texas and the clout of A&M (except that since Jimbo left FSU for A&M, it might be exaggerating to equate FSU to A&M).

It is simply a question of money. Florida can deliver it.
