Maybe, maybe not. It is worth noting that the NFL up until 2015 was an
unincorporated nonprofit 501(c)(6) association. Now the NFL considers itself a "trade association." I suspect if you look at the other major pro leagues in the US, then you are likely to find they are structured in such a way that doesn't include "for profit" in the organization structure. Why assume the new association would want to reinvent the wheel here?
