KU plays a basketball game in KC every year, but they do it because
the tickets are so expensive in Lawrence, that they want to give fans a chance to watch them without having to spend money to scalpers.
Neutral sight games will have to pony up the money to give up home games, especially at Lane with the home field advantage. If it nets VT the money, and that includes the economic benefit to Blacksburg, then by all means, schedule them.
Ohio State gave Toledo a home game, but only if it was played in Cleveland. A class move if you ask me, but OSU benefited in the same way that KU does for basketball. It gives fans that can not afford the donations a chance to see their team without spending a fortune.
