UVa & UNC were not interested at all at the time and were not happy with the B1G poaching a charter member. The attitude at the time was - we don't need your $, we are just fine thank you. I don't have time to look but the revenues at the time between the leagues were much closer and both schools scoffed that they would basically blow up a conference that they founded (I know UVa came in months after the league started) over such a small amount of $. Neither school truly believed the projections they were being shown for future revenues showing such a large disparity or they may have taken the conversation more seriously. Delany was stunned that the schools were not more interested - he thought poaching UMD would destabilize the league. The other league members were very upset with UMD and couldn't believe they didn't ask for help with their issues from the ACC before making such a drastic decision.
