Cuse in addition to SMU, would that have gotten them ranked higher in the pre season? If VT added ASU and Utah to their schedule in addition to USCe, would they be ranked pre season? The most important rank is the last vote, but the next more important rankings for SOS, is the preseason. The rankings are bases on "rank" of recruiting, the transfer portal, last years returning players, and more importantly, last years "rank" and brand. It's a lose lose trying to out schedule the brands. VT, and every other B12 team is better off having a one loss season, and making the championship game, then they have with a 2 loss season based on SOS. Until they get rid of preseason rankings, there will be an inherent bias, and even if they got rid of that, there will be a bias. Not a damned thing anyone in the ACC, or B12 can do about that. The SOS is used to justify teams that lost games, not teams that win their games. I just don't think there is anything conference teams can do about it in the ACC or B12. Look at Penn States OOC schedule. Are they worried about SOS? No, because they are a "brand" and will play other ranked teams in the BIG that in all likely hood do not deserve their rankings. In collegiate football, the teams for the most part are so different than the previous year, that preseason rankings are nothing but a way to pad the brands prestige.
