Not financial prudent in this environment

There are so many perils in making financial viability in college sports now. any expansion should be wary VT prior to Pry, was a totally unfunded football program. VT has NOW raised the limit on coaching and support staff, resources and some facilities. However, that is just started. VT 400 million dollar campaign is addressing some of it. However, expect in 4-5 years, the demands to keep and pay staff will double, and money must put in the table for budget flexibility. VT is doing well, and the leadership knows what and where we need to go with the current suite of programs and services and there is significant efforts on raising money (and doing ok). Dont forget VT is working on Cassell renovation a 90 million dollar program, expect the budget to raise to 100-120 million just for inflation, not to incur temporary relocation of events maybe to roanoke ( and renting out space)..... Also, we know softball facilities need improvement and it will happen but thats a 5 million dollar effort (no VT can't meet a level of program with a bunch of temp stands and food trucks for the long term. Next effort ready to be executed, expansion and renovation of Tennis complex, its ready to contract, pending funding and BOV approval. We need also major upgrade in locker rooms in lane, and renovation of the east side, and concession service on the west side and dont forget major wifi/cellular update for the area so we can ensure 65000 plus attendees can all be connected on line. (sorry old folks, that is current practice) and that train has left. Dont forget the unforeseen..... if students become employees, escalation of cost for tuition, and room and board. Stepping back, I dont look at each item, but the big picture, and the big picture is chaos and with that you need a great financial resources, flexibility to move money, and expand in this new order. Adding Lacrosse, while, I know would get support and talent, would not be prudent in these times.

No I don't advise cutting anything.

Oh I agree with you. I hate seeing a school cut a men's sport (or sports)
VTHokie2000 06/02/22 02:32 PM ET
Probably because it requires adding another women's sport
EDGEMAN 06/01/22 04:16 PM ET
We should get a couple of teams to do it at once to avoid that.
