I think some like to think about being an association of like-minded universities. Sounds quaint. But not realistic. And sadly, this is one reason why WVU isn't in the ACC where they belong. The only conference that seems to be like-minded and has maintained that for generations is the Ivy League. Every other conference has outliers. I'm sure Stanford and Cal thought they were B1G material. But the B1G went in a different direction. While it isn't and shouldn't be the only thing, geography matters.
