If you equalize distributions, that means the more valuable entity is subsidizing the less valuable entity. That's a simple fact, and when this occurs the more valuable entities will leave and play ball somewhere else where they don't give away as much. Why should VT make as much as FSU, Clemson, or UNC if those other teams are driving better ratings and contributing more? Why should Wake make as much as VT? It doesn't need to be 1 to 1, but certainly a team could keep 50% of their ratings value they generate (formulaically), and the other 50% is for the pool.
