Also it's not only 19 team cap. The targets may need 5 year independence

According to Ross Dellenger: The expansion provision remains mostly unchanged: - Power league membership is capped at 19 schools. - Schools moving from one power league to another are required to operate as an independent for five years. - Notre Dame/independents/G6 programs can freely join power leagues.

Question about 19 and a possible work around

If the Protect College Sports Act is passed, legal challenges are expected

The complexity of this unbelievable

Easier solution: Congress legislate that all conferences are round robin
Maroon Baboon 07/30/26 12:50 PM ET
Easiest solution is that Congress only covers the money aspect
HokieAl 07/30/26 04:26 PM ET
The SEC and Big "Ten" superconferences is what got us into this mess.**
Maroon Baboon 07/30/26 06:06 PM ET
The mess probably started long before we got to this point. This just
VTHokie2000 07/31/26 10:00 AM ET
If they rely on Congress.......
2hhoop3 07/30/26 04:44 PM ET
I'm not sure VT would be in favor of that idea because the ACC will likely
VTHokie2000 07/30/26 01:05 PM ET
It's in Congress's hands now, not VT's
Maroon Baboon 07/30/26 01:10 PM ET
I realize it is out of VT's hands now. My point though is I think VA is

I don't get the 5-year independence thing. Makes zero sense.**
Maroon Baboon 07/31/26 04:52 AM ET
It gives room to the Big Ten for ND
TerryD 07/31/26 09:52 AM ET
However, I wonder if the split would create 2 "new" conferences...
The_VT_Rock 07/30/26 12:50 PM ET
IF a new conf is created, I’d wager it is football only.
HokieAl 07/30/26 04:30 PM ET
Why would the ACC let schools that leave in football remain for others?
mrcaniac 07/31/26 04:34 PM ET
ND model. We could agree to schedule them OOC and bolster other sports
HokieAl 07/31/26 04:44 PM ET
Again, it makes no financial sense for the ACC to do that
mrcaniac 07/31/26 07:35 PM ET
If the power conferences would allow such

You cannot just divide the revenue by 2. The $700 million is as of 2025
RandomAsianGuy 07/30/26 01:19 PM ET
Haha that's clever. But sounds like too much headache. **
