Worthless. If both teams in a conf champ game are guaranteed to be in the playoff then there is literally no incentive to try hard or risk player injuries. And with nothing on the line, there is no reason for fans to care or to watch. But the auto bid model has one key benefit that you won’t get from 5+11 model. With auto bids, it gives teams the room to schedule harder OOC games (which are better for tv and for fans). Using VT as an example, I would happily replace Wofford and Liberty with Wisconsin and LSU. That would make a VT football season so much more interesting. That’s why I remain focused on a hybrid approach that brings the benefits of both proposals. Certainly from more auto bids but also flexibility for a conference to load up on at large teams if they have a great year.
