The only motivation for them now is money
The conf champ games bring a ton of viewers for the BIG and SEC. And that means more money for them.
But that’s really the only thing left now, other than bragging rights. All four P2 teams that play in conf champ games are making the expanded playoff each year. And they changed the seeding approach so now the conf champ games mean even less.
