All Looks Very Bad

I remember how the yearly 25 college football scholarship limit literally brought parity all across the college football world between the G5 & P5. I remember Arkansas & Texas playing in the world before those 25 scollie limits. With Longhorn players lined up on the sidelines from the 10 yard sideline markers on both ends of the Football Field. Arkansas had nearly that many dressed out players on their sideline. All the powerhouse football programs had those type numbers of scholie athletes. The depth of those football teams literally beat the weaker P5 & G5 programs. Upsets were very very rare. Hoarding athletes was common with coaches giving scholarships just to keep opponents from getting those athletes. I remember a lot of complaints about that hoarding. The 25 scholarship limits were voted in with the NCAA because the smaller colleges out numbered the majors by a large number. I use to know those numbers. The 25 limit was prohibitive because the numbers never really added up. An 85 limit on the roster when over 4 years a total of 100 athletes were given scholarships. A 5th added redshirt year put additional pressures on reaching that 85 roster limits. I remember football coaches shrugging it off as being mostly taken care of by natural attrition. Football coaches are not paid to complain at those high levels and they were going with the flow like they will do on all this recent change. These changes are going to bring back the old world to some extent with roster numbers. However I noted that $22 Million is already slated to go to $25 Million over the next 3 or 4 years. With that $25 Million directing tied to be adjusted as the money for the conferences increases. They said all these scholarship increases across all sports with Title IX requirements will cost each school $7 or $8 Million each year. That is $32 Million foreseeable in the next 3 or 4 years. Look where the ACC is now setting with their extended ESPN TV Contract until 2036. How can the ACC survive this? It is gong to put big pressure on Big 12 schools to get more money to survive. This all just looks like a very shaky world for the P2.

Well, that is going in the wrong direction.

So does that mean each player won't get as much?

This must have been pushed by the SEC and Big X
PFHokie 07/26/24 08:16 AM ET
It certainly wasn't pushed by the MAC or Mountain West. **

105 schollies? Who will be the first player with a triple-digit number?
Maroon Baboon 07/25/24 02:51 PM ET
No need. O and D numbers can be the same. Just not on field at same time.**

Basketball apparently will go up by 2 scholarships. Max of 15 now
HokieAl 07/25/24 03:46 PM ET
