A tuition free education was the answer for nearly a century. That was also a limitation that was to be strictly adhered to under NCAA regulation. Coaches and their staffs faced severe penalties for financial assistance beyond that education. I have no problem with athletes being paid a set salary. However they already get free food & free housing. Buying food and paying utilities is expensive. Athletes never have to foot any of those expenses but I think they should still be considered when setting a salary. I think about $500 a month is sufficient. You are talking about youngsters that as a rule do not spend money wisely anyway. I sure didn't when that age. However let's further analyze all this. Reading these articles, those at the helm of putting this all into action want far more that what I just allotted. I see the figure of 50% of what the university's sports revenue yearly intake as their ultimate goal. They want these mostly minor athletes wearing gold chains & driving sports cars. They already are doing that on NIL to some percentage of them. Or they going to dump NIL? I doubt that. Who finances college sports? It is not ESPN. It is John Q. Public. When they piss off JQP until he or she will not buy game tickets or pay to watch ESPN or even watch college sports. College sports are dead as a door nail. That is sadly coming.
