“Poling” this board. Do hikers have opinions on this piercing story?

I had real bad gash from one of my poles
Doing a quick decent when putting one of the pole down it glanced off a flat rock and ricocheted right into my shin and sliced right nice. Probably could have used a few stitches. Thankfully hit my shin bc I'm pretty sure if it hit my calf it would have right through like this fella. Don't know how I didn't fall but one of those moments I stopped and knew I got lucky

Glad he's okay, so now I can have a old man rant. A trekking pole?? In my day (gosh I'm old) we picked up a stick that was lying on the ground and used that. WTH is a trekking pole? I looked it up, and they go for $15 to $100!! SMH

I have a pair with shock absorbers - I don't use them most of the time, but when I do they really make a difference
