From today's Cardinal News: Building for sale in downtown Blacksburg, would
be an awesome location for @Will Stewart latest real estate venture: a new TSL restaurant with pod cast studio, and employee housing for Chris & Dave.

Non sequitur...what does holistically mean vs wholelistically?
“Engineers aren’t cheap and we’re looking at it holistically as a town-wide thing, but it will absolutely help this property because it is in floodwaters,” Does this mean it has holes or is holy vs looking at the whole thing? TIC

Good question! All I know is that word is an overused buzz word, just like
“Impactful”. On a more serious note: Most municipalities have a blight ordinance that can be enforced to compel property owners to fix/renovate the building. The property tax on the building in its current condition is probably lower than it would be otherwise, so the town is effectively losing money. Its a real life Catch-22 situation, lol!

Then they'll turn around & give them grant money plus tax credits to fix it

I wonder if the current owners are even aware that grants & tax credits are
available?

To answer....
We spell holistic with an H because it derives directly from the Greek word hólos, meaning "whole" or "all". In contrast, the English word whole comes from an entirely different, old Germanic root, making the "W" in wholistic an invented addition. Here is the quick breakdown of how these two words evolved separately: Holistic: Coined in the 1920s by South African philosopher Jan Smuts, who wanted to name his philosophical theory (the drive in nature to create "wholes"). He pulled the Greek prefix holos directly, so the word has never had a "W". Whole: Traces back to Old English and Germanic roots (like hāl) meaning "healthy" or "uninjured". The "WH" spelling is actually an artificial addition from the 1500s—added by scribes to distinguish it from the word "hole".Because holistic and whole have such similar meanings, "wholistic" became a widely used variant (known as a folk etymology) to better reflect the underlying meaning for English readers. However, in standard academics and medicine, holistic remains the correct and preferred spelling.

I think the family that owned Crickett's is who owned the building too. I
remember the mom's name was Mary when I worked there.

The first floor could sell TSL merchandise at their coffee bar...
...and the other side could be a nice TSL bar. Beer in the front, scotch in the back. :)

In the window of the drugstore
they had a little display of graves marked with each team on the football schedule. If Tech won a game, that grave would be filled in with sand.

That was Little Doc's Drug Store on the corner of College Ave. and Draper.
It is now Souvlaki's and they still have the little graves.

Try 3x that, $1.5 million! Excerpt inside.
"In 2019, a historic preservation certification application was submitted to the National Park Service by Fengs Group Real Estate, detailing an estimated rehabilitation cost of $1.5 million. "

As I understand it, historical rehab would only be required on exterior
Interiors you can do what you want with, but exteriors must meet Blacksburg historical standards. At least that's what it is with homes subject to the historical districts in Blacksburg. If that $1.5MM is just for exterior, I can only think what the total rehab would be.

Same here. Any due diligence would require a new analysis, plus a building
inspection. Out of my league :-)

The one you’re remembering is Studio One.
It was built in the late 1960s or 1970. That building in the picture was probably Dave’s hotdogs when you were in school. Would be my guess. Studio one became two theaters after a while.
