If you find your way to a square called De Burg, Delaney's Irish Pub has some good Irish food. The nearby Crowne Plaza (where I stayed for a week in 2005) has the ruins of an old church in the basement. There are some windmills and old city gates along the Kanaal Gent-Brugge that might be worth a photo. One friend of mine went to Brugge and rented a bike, which he rode up to the North Sea and an area called Zeebrugge. Although 8 miles from the center of Brugge, Zeebrugge is still within Brugge's city limits. I was in Ghent for one day in 2005, but I don't remember much except for a canal boat ride. In 2017, I was on a trip to the Netherlands and Belgium, which spent one day in Brugge.

Brugge is fantastic

though. After leaving Ghent our trip turned into a beer pilgrimage. Spent two nights in the guesthouse at Saint Bernardus with side trips to Westvleteren and Chimay. Great trip!

And also, that's a pretty darn good description of the old town, which is where I spent all my time.
