Have they considered the economic impact of such a move on Blacksburg and
The surrounding area, or do they just not care?

The ADA situation at most VT events is awful. I am frankly surprised they
haven't been sued. There is no where enough ADA parking in Lot 1 so if you don't get to the basketball games very early you have to walk a lot farther than people with mobility issues should have to.

That is correct, Lot 3 and Lot 2 on that end exit left onto Southgate. I
will also add that unless you arrive early, navigating the aisles of Lot 2 after they fill with tailgaters is not easy. It seems that would be less of an issue in Lot 3, but that is pure speculation.

Due South was good, but it went out of business a couple of years ago.
Bluegrass in Pembroke is the best bbq in the area. I never did go to B&B for bbq.

Last time I went to Bull & Bones I swore it would be the last time.
took 1.5 hours to get our lunch, they were out of half of the things we ordered, garbage bag over one of the urinals, etc. I used to like that place a lot, but it has really gone down hill.

I think coach said as much earlier this year. Baker's role last year was
almost exclusively catch and shoot. She wanted the opportunity to contribute in other ways as well. Which, as you said, benefits her as well as the team. She's probably due a bump in NIL $ next year unless football needs a 15th receiver.

Yes! She does a lot of "dirty work" that doesn't get much recognition.
I am really impressed how she has embraced learning a new role, compared to last year, for the good of the team. That's a sign of a great teammate.

Uhh...This was pretty dang bad. The problem wasn't that they
called fouls. It was the lack of consistency. Call a ticky tack foul and then ignore a mugging, or call it a jump ball. And it is anyone's guess how they were deciding out of bounds calls. Seemed like they were flipping a coin. .

It's been a few years, but I have taken Amtrak from Williamsburg to both
DC and PHL numerous times. The train always stopped at both the Main Street Station and Staples Mill Station in Richmond. I assume that is still the case.

Thanks for the link. I appreciate your posts and respect your opinion, So I
am curious what you are suggesting I edit. I am not denying that WBB has had success, especially recently. WBB, softball, and wrestling are probably the most consistently successful programs over the past several years. Nor was I arguing that FB is in a better place now than WBB, I am not that foolish. I was simply disagreeing with the statement that "WBB has shown a level of consistency for many years over several coaches". I simply don't see that there has been consistent success under coaches other than BH and KB. And even KB's first 3 years were characterized by great starts with less than stellar conference seasons. Of course, I guess it just depends on how you define consistent. Carol Alfano only had 18 or more wins in 3 of her 20 seasons, so that is pretty consistent, just not consistently successful.

LOL. If thinking that " shown a level of consistency for many years over
several coaches" is very different than "I am looking more at today's perception" is being picky, then yeah I guess i am picky. Peace, I am out. Need to go rest from chasing those moving goalposts.

Interesting that you say "the WBBT has shown a level of consistency for
many years over several coaches." My perception is that WBB has had some periods of success under a few coaches, but not sustained success over a long period of time. Your comment got me thinking, so I did some research to see if my memory matches reality. Hokiesports.com has the following list of coaches and records
1976-77 John Wetzel (7-9)
1977-78 Caroline Owen (8-16)âalso coach of the womenâs tennis team that season
1978-97 Carol Alfano overall (284-262) NCAA; '94, '95 (2-1)
1997-2004 Bonnie Hendrickson overall (158-62) NCAA; '98, '99, '01, '03, '04 (6-5) one sweet 16 appearance
2004-2011 Beth Dunkenberger: overall (110-104) NCAA; '05, '06 (1-2)
2011-2016 Dennis Wolff: overall (61-93)
2016-2024 Kenny Brooks: overall (180-82) NCAA; '21,'22,'23,'24 (6-4) one sweet 16, one elite 8, one final 4
I readily recognize the success of KB and Bonnie Hendrickson, and I believe MD will be successful here if we can keep her. Otherwise, I do not see where there has been much WBB sustained success. Carol Alfano was HC for almost 20 years, had 2 NCAA appearances, and was ~ 20 games above .500. Dunkenberger has some early success with Hendrickson's players, but things went downhill after that so that she finished just a few games above .500. Do I need to even comment on Dennis Wolff?
So I see 2 of 8 coaches who actually built and sustained success in WBB, and both then left.
This is not to diminish what WBB has achieved the past few years, but to present a perspective that differs from yours. And I have no doubt that the WBB program is in a better place than our FB program at the present time. But I also think it is not fair to present the past successful era of the football program as only "the Vick years". "99-'01 may have been the apex, but there were conference championships and New Years day bowl games before MV got here and long after he left.
So how about we celebrate whatever successes all the programs at VT have rather than allowing recency bias to cause us to put one program down in order to lift another?

Any idea what the "Adjusted NIL Value" is, how it is calculated, and the
significance of the colors (black, red, green)? Some numbers have +, which I assume is an estimated NIL increase created by replacing the departing players with the "committed" ones. Some have -, and others have no + or -, so it is not clear to me what those numbers are.

Yet you are sure we will regret getting Altuner without ever seeing him
play one snap. Are you just that much more savvy than the rest of us? After all, you have been "one of the better posters here since '98".

IMO, there is little pressure on CMY as long as the lion's share of VT's
NIL $$ goes to football at the expense of other sports. You can't expect champagne results with beer resources.

The University Bookstore in the Kroger shopping center on University City
Blvd is still open. To be clear, it was the Tech Bookstore that closed on Main Street, across from Cabo Fish Taco. I am not aware that there was ever a University Book Store (the official VT store) on Main Street. There is a Campus Emporium, still there across from the Post Office, and there was the Tech Bookstore, now closed. Neither Campus Emporium or Tech Bookstore have any association with VT. The University Bookstores are official VT stores.

Good times in Brugge and Ghent. I haven't spent much time in Brussels
though. After leaving Ghent our trip turned into a beer pilgrimage. Spent two nights in the guesthouse at Saint Bernardus with side trips to Westvleteren and Chimay. Great trip!

Vandy home field advantage? That is not likely to be a problem. Fans of
other SEC teams routinely take over Vandy's stadium.

I renewed early without fully digesting the new pricing structure,
so shame on me. If we keep our same seats in the South End Zone Club section, it will cost 70% more than last year as a result of the increased per seat charge and ticket prices. I will probably keep those seats this year since my wife enjoys being able to go inside when the conditions are not perfect :), but not sure how much longer I will continue to buy season tickets.
My Hokie Club rep tells me they are adding a pre-game buffet this year, though, and it will be "all inclusive" with my seats, which means I get to pay for it whether I use it or not. Thanks a lot. I would rather continue to tailgate with friends than eat dry banquet chicken from the steam table.

That is a nice sentiment, but also very 2020 thinking. The odds of all of
them sticking here for 3 years in the age of portal, pay for play, and poaching are very low. Look no further than our MBB team to see the real life lesson. Commitments are one year at best, a few weeks at worst. I hate it, but it is the current reality.

Probably have to win the ACC tourney for that to happen. Even then,
we might needs some others to lose.
I, too, was looking forward to VT hosting. Spring of 2022 was a special time in B'burg with both SB and BB hosting regionals and supers.

I think 2 minimum, 3 would be better
Need a 5 and a wing with 2-3 years eligibility remaining. And I would like a senior point guard to hold down the fort while Mac and Sufferen get some seasoning.

Hokie SB beat Cuse on Saturday! He answered your question.
Softball is 10-2 in the last 12 games against the Cuse. Football beat them in 2023. WBB beat them earlier this year. If you are trying to make a point beyond the outcome of individual games, you may need to use more than 5 words.
The above victories not withstanding, that place is the bane of Hokie's existence.
Women's Basketball Board

Uhh, I like Baker and Ekh but they are both predominantly catch and shoot.
I have not seen either demonstrate a consistent ability to drive to the rim. We need to add a proven point guard and a 5 imo. Suffern and Nelson have potential, but in the words of Bill Parcell "potential means you haven't done anything yet." It would be worrisome to go into a season with no proven point guard on the roster, and I'm pretty sure CMD feels the same way having played the position herself.

What? Don't you come to the board for the fashion commentary? Where better
to get fashion critiques than a basketball board populated predominantly by old fart males (like myself) who wear jorts and 20 year old pleated jeans?

Certainly losing GA changes the outlook for VT, but I don't think VT is a
contender even with her. Depends on your definition of contender I suppose. But who knows, maybe we could have attracted some bigger impact transfers if GA were still here. It's all conjecture by a bunch of fanatics :-)
As for UK, I don't know if they will be a contender, and I don't care. Don't mean to sound snarky, but that is how I feel.
Women's Basketball Board
2 y ago
I understand this is not your main point, but I have to disagree that GA is
leaving "a contender". Absent several home runs in the transfer portal, VT WBB is not contending for anything next year, GA's one remaining year, other than hopefully a tournament bid. Notre Dame is loaded and Stanford is entering the conference. The conference schedule will be the usual gauntlet. VT has 2 players returning who have started a game and 4 who have played meaningful minutes.
I understand the situation can change if the staff can land some big time transfers, but at this point in time I don't think you can call VT a contender.

I would not be at all surprised if that is the case. Georgia wearing a UK

So this raises a question. Have any of the assistant coaches or staff left
yet? Or do they wait until a new coach is hired? I understand the new coach will have their people they want to bring with, but I am mostly wondering who is holding things together at VT right now.

We can't pay any players. Do you actually think we are going to pay a
buyout plus the salary of another coach? Even if we could, who will take the job with no NIL for recruiting?
