Elon Musk says new 'mind-blowing' Roadster will go to 0-60mph in <1 second
Tonight, we radically increased the design goals for the new Tesla Roadster. There will never be another car like this, if you could even call it a car.

Kids on tik tok will be playing the "g" blackout game while the car plows
into a family. Seriously if I remember correctly that would be probably 5 to 6g. Same as some roller coasters but since Tesla's seem to have no safety measures with people sleeping in the back seat etc. this could be a disaster. I still don't get if there is no safety or if people hack into the systems. I know on my cars the adaptative cruise freaks out if you're not holding the steering wheel for more than 3 seconds.

Does the roadster have back seats?

For reference...and F-18 launching off a Carrier goes 0-60 in .8 seconds

Been talking about releasing it for 3-4 years now. Maybe it actually
comes out? Who knows

It's supposed to be a car not a rocketship, Elon!
Lord I can only imagine how much battery it uses to go 0-60 that fast... lol

The amount of credence I give to anything Elon says is very minute.

I feel like at that point, you are limited by the tires, not the engine or
Motor. I believe you can get wheels accelerating fast enough to pull that off, but I'm not sure where you'd find tires that would both maintain traction and not shred themselves.

I was going to ask similar. How sticky must the tires be in order to
achieve that without peeling out and smoking them?
E
EDGEMAN OP
Doubt those tires will last very long
In order to get those times, you're going to have to have very soft and sticky rubber. They probably won't be good for more than a few trips down the track...lol

Imagine that sudden level of power generation quickly drains the battery
Good news, you outran the cops. Bad news, they are quickly approaching your car with its dead battery.
Tafkam Hokie Tafkam Hokie
In theory, something like that would be for sanctioned 1/4 mile racing
With a full change of tires and a battery recharge between heats. If you get a car like that with the hope of outrunning the cops, you will likely get the just rewards your stupidity deserves.

Drag racing tires! Constant replacement!
E
EDGEMAN OP
Exactly! Cars can accelerate that quickly (just look at dragsters), but...
...you will go through a mountain of tires every year...lol

Reveal an engineering team that needed to push further. Traction and impulse. It's going to be fun.

Would that get this knot outta my neck, and is that article's author

Can't wait to see this in the hands of yahoos. TAS: Tesla Assisted Suicide
I remember the Car Talk guys talking to a parent saying not to hand down a BMW Z3 to a new driver due to acceleration vs skills. That Z3 went 0-60 in 6.8s, making it seem like my dad's '59 Rambler wagon compared to this.
