Is this the retired person's tax board? I am now collecting SS. Last->
year was my first year. Am I supposed to get a W2 (or SS equivalent)? I have seen nothing. How do I know how much I got and what the taxes were. I told them to withhold tax. I have no idea how to claim SS earnings. If I haven't gotten anything who can I ask. Dealing with the Government, the IRS and the Post Office feels like the trifecta of potential disaster!! TIA

What will you do when SS is axed?

What will everyone do when the government goes bankrupt?

SS never part of a budget …
It’s a payroll tax - folks who paid into it deserve restitution, especially those already on it with no other means for survival.

I am not counting on it to live well. BUT, it is MY FREAKING MONEY and->
I will raise holy HELL about it! The government takes from us for our whole lives. People who call SS an "entitlement" are 100% correct...It is MY money they used interest free for almost 50 years...and I am ENTITLED to have it back!

Have never expected to actually get it in the first place.

Very empathetic of you for the 72M already on SS.
Guess they should go back to work or die 🤷‍♂️

WHAT?
Dude...what happened to you?

Not sure what you mean ...
...I was genuinely asking HokieRit what he'll do if SS is cut - you respond you didn't expect it. I don't either. But that does nothing for the 72M already on it including our parents.

If they would stop taking it, I get not expecting it..Thankfully, my dad->
gave me good advice when I first got out of school. He said, "If you don't start saving beginning with your first paycheck, you may well wind up counting on the government to take care of you. IF you do that you will get WHAT the government wants you to have WHEN the government wants you to have it." Since that was the VERY last thing I EVER wanted, I listened. Thankfully (and with good fortune in life, I am fine without SS. Many people were not as lucky. or things happened, and they DO need that money. It is as much their money as my SS is mone! STILL..in my (and many other people of my generation's case) we paid a hell of a lot of SS over the years. The total you can pay annually (SS and Medicare) is up around $20, 000. I would have LOVED to have that money to invest for the past many years...No, the government had BEST figure this out and NOT ax SS, not before they STOP fleechnig working people paycheck after paycheck for 40-50 years in the workforce!

And I never said it did.
My post had nothing to do with being empathetic or not. The issues with SS are not new. They've been known for 20-30 years AT LEAST. As far as what I mean...you seem to have become a broken man (at least with regards to your internet persona). You used to be jovial and unserious...now you just come across as angry all the time. I sincerely hope you're ok.

do you have access to the ssa website?
ssa.gov? even if you go there now you can see where to click to download your 1099. 'course you'd have to log in to really do it.

I can and I did.. I must have missed it. When I did that, it showed me->
how much I am supposed to get and the monthly deductions. Nothing like a 1099. I must have missed it. I can figure it our by taking monthly x12 for both payout and tax withheld. Don't know if Medicare monthly withholding is deductible (I assume not).. I will go back in an look again., If THAT is where you get it,I will find it...Thanks lag!

Yes. But make sure you are looking at any SS mail. It may not strike you
as a W2. Also, you can go on line and request on thru SS. I don't know how long the request would take.

You will get a 1099 with all of that info. Surprised you have not yet.
Maybe first year 1099’s are slower.
