Grandfather and great uncle were in the Big Red One in WWI
Never heard their stories, just a few passed down by my father. My great uncle was highly decorated but never never left Eastern Kentucky again after the war. My uncles were in the Army in WW2. One grew to quite a bit of fame for being a general's driver and procurer of whiskey and cigars. Those were the most interesting stories.
