He actually saw some pretty significant action especially during the aftermath of the Battle of Chosin Reservoir. I will not get into the particulars but dad was on SP duty when the aircraft carrier he was serving on, the USS Sicily, was directly involved in the Hungnam evacuation. Little did he know that his brother was evacuated from Hungnam...he was a forward weather observer for the US Marines at the Yalu River when the Chinese poured across. My Uncle was wounded at the Chosin Reservoir. Dad and my Uncle didn't know they were on the Sicily together until after the War. Neither Dad nor my Uncle never really talked about it until I took them to the Mountain Home VA in Johnson City, TN. They told me the whole story. It was interesting to say the least to hear these 2 fine men speak about it.
