So our 30 year old lace bark elm took a hit from the ice overnight and dropped 2 branches that extend across my neighbor's driveway. A few of the smaller branches look to be resting on their cars, but at this point no visible dents although a few scratches would not shock me. In checking with my homeowner's insurance I have learned that tree debris removal would only apply if there was damage done on my property, but there is no damage. I would have a $500 deductible in any case. I've also learned that technically even though the tree is in my yard, it would be my neighbor's responsibility to remove the debris from her yard. I am also told that my liability coverage would not extend to her vehicles, as her liability coverage should take care of that. Since some of the debris is in my yard it is my intention to hire tree removal folks to remove the debris from both yards. Other than that, and consulting with an arborist to ensure the health of our lace bark elm, is there anything else I should do? I'm counting on the combined wisdom of the lounge to show me the path of righteousness!
