So our 30 year old lace bark elm took a hit from the ice overnight and dropped 2 branches that extend across my neighbor's driveway. A few of the smaller branches look to be resting on their cars, but at this point no visible dents although a few scratches would not shock me. In checking with my homeowner's insurance I have learned that tree debris removal would only apply if there was damage done on my property, but there is no damage. I would have a $500 deductible in any case. I've also learned that technically even though the tree is in my yard, it would be my neighbor's responsibility to remove the debris from her yard. I am also told that my liability coverage would not extend to her vehicles, as her liability coverage should take care of that. Since some of the debris is in my yard it is my intention to hire tree removal folks to remove the debris from both yards. Other than that, and consulting with an arborist to ensure the health of our lace bark elm, is there anything else I should do? I'm counting on the combined wisdom of the lounge to show me the path of righteousness!

My mom subscribes to the WSJ print edition and saves them for me. I don't bother much with current events, but they do have a lot of good content. And I'm a physical paper junkie too. It was painful to cancel the Richmond Times Dispatch, but necessary to do so, as I was no longer enjoying it.

As so many of you have pointed out, the relationship with your boss, working conditions, and the stress caused are things to consider. When folks are having trouble paying the rent, buying groceries, or getting medical care, I can (sort of) understand going after a pay increase regardless of the other factors, but once you are at a comfortable level (yes, I know this is a moving target), I don't understand chasing money alone. I've known too many that took the promotion, made the move, and loved the money, but hated getting up and going to work in the morning. Maybe not making a million a year blinds me to the benefits of more, more, more. NONE of this is meant to disparage Coach Brooks, whom I greatly admire. I just think he is in a great working situation, with a lot of talented and dialed-in players coming back, and a community that loves him. I wish nothing but the best for him and his family.

My wife, who is 3 years younger, as made it clear that the day I retire is the day she retires.
