I do believe it will. There is just WAY too much upside
And I'm not talking about the environment either.
Battery technology is literally the one constraint that his holding back the technological advancement of mankind. There are so many things we could do better/faster/cheaper if we had better portable electricity.
Maybe it will be better batteries. Maybe it will be hydrogen fuel cells that are stable, scaleable, and cheap. Maybe it will be some form of wireless transmission of electricity. But somehow, electricity as a portable energy source will be a problem that gets solved just because whoever pulls it off will be rich beyond their wildest dreams.
An EV is superior to an ICE in literally every way possible EXCEPT for the storage medium of it's power source. So far, gasoline has proven to be the best portable energy source man has come up with. Once we figure out portable electricity, all the ways an electric motor are better than an ICE for pushing a car will be obvious.
