Why bother building any at all?
They're losing 100 large PER UNIT. Mentioned scaling up production to reduce costs... what makes them think demand will meet that kind of production before California's electric car mandate goes into effect on 10½ more years? I don't see it happening. Not sure it'll ever catch up in my lifetime.
I know if Virginia had an EV mandate I'd probably get a ICE vehicle just before the mandate went into effect. And if I manage to outlive that car, I'll find the nearest state that I can still buy an ICE vehicle.
I have zero desire whatsoever to get an EV. Too much downside. Not enough pros to outweigh the cons.
