Green Bay might have a plan..
I bet they see something here for sure. Drones could fit several Slots there for them. Let's watch and see, I hope so..

There were videos of him all off the student social media feeds. It certainly wasn’t a secret amongst the students.

Right now, he's just a body who, if a half dozen unforeseen things happen, might get an end of the roster role.

They didn't have to send the message to show up to camp. So take a seat...

IMHO. Drones could bring a different type player for the NFL. Big, Strong, and willing to play a different position.. Yep..Let things play out..IF, not, he can head home with about 98% of those that get drafted or a "look" at from the NFL..

In the meantime before his brief stay in camp begins, Drones has to cover his training, travel, housing, and other life expenses. Once he gets to camp - and while he's in camp - he gets a nice per diem of something like $300. Salary is for regular season participation; he'll only get paid the salary in his contract (on a per game basis) if he makes the team. Or a lesser weekly salary if he makes a practice squad.
Drones got $5k bonus and $5k guaranteed. They have almost nothing invested in him. He's not in any Packer plans.
Drones - and almost all UDFAs - are nothing more than teams throwing mud at the wall and seeing if something sticks. ~10% or so willl make a final roster in August (vs 75%-80% for drafted players).
But making a final roster as a UFDA largely depends upon intangibles like injuries and positions of need, etc. And those spots are extremely tenuous - teams monitor the wire to find somebody better to fill that end of roster slot. Even making a roster does not remotely mean you are part of a team's plan for anything beyond the immediate future. You can make a roster one day and get released one day later. Very, very few actually carve out a real role for themselves where they are actually part of a team's plans.

But I could see a GM being curious to see what they could extract from a 3-year P4 starter QB

Drones is a strong guy but he lacks speed/agility. He made one TD catch on a trick play and he looked pretty good. He made some nice blocks when he ran downfield. I don't see him as a QB at the next level but he could be a fullback, h-back or tight end.

He had a lot of experience running the ball and always did well.

Not to mention he wasn't that effective running wildcat type plays. He was mostly effective when he was one of several options, not when he was the only option..
