Pry is a good man. Just wasn't getting it done as a Head Coach. Definitely
an odd situation bringing him back as DC. I can separate the two functions in my head and how he wasn't the Head Coach we needed but can potentially be a great DC for Franklin. However, I think Franklin needs to separate himself in making a hire for a friend versus potentially getting a better DC. I do think the two will make a great tandem in recruitment. Pry can also help get Franklin and his staff up to speed quicker. So like others I think we just have to trust Franklin. But also Pry needs to consistently demonstrate he can coach the Defense up well enough. Franklin will need to assess him fairly minus the friendship.

JF knows. Recycled Manny Diaz. Lots of coaches recycle.
I do have reservations about Pry, who otherwise seems like a pretty okay and knowledgeable guy. But JF is putting his career on the line for this decision. Trust coach!

Worked out well for Lane Kiffin when he became Saban's OC.
And then again when Steve Sarkisian replaced him as OC at Bama. It's not a *weird* situation for a former HC to rebound his career by going "down" a rung with a former boss in order to bounce back up. It literally happens all the time. Chip Kelly is being linked to the Ohio State OC job (again) as we speak, for the record. VT BABY!!!

Yeah, more than most made of Beamer hiring Shane. Pry has the resume`.
I think the odds of Price remaining on staff just increased also. He's a good position coach. We'll see how it all plays out.

I don’t understand how people can’t differentiate betweeen…
…a healthy 15-year working relationship.. …and a “personal relationship”. Has nobody followed a great boss to a new job? Or hired a former coworker away to a better company? It happens *all the time* in business. And FOR SURE in football. Heard of a “coaching tree”? VT BABY!!!

Yeah, hiring a friend doesn't necessarily equate to
Hiring *because* friend. It would be exceedingly weird optics to have Pry come back as DC, but you can't ignore the successful history those 2 have, friends or not.

Exactly. And let’s be clear: Brent Pry was prob the #1 DC available
Had Matt Campbell hired Pry to Penn State, or had he headed to Vandy as DC, would anyone have been surprised? A coordinator with P4 HC experience is huge these days. VT BABY!!!

"Brent Pry's a good friend." - Franklin during press conference, over tears
And even if he hadn't said that, or shed empathetic tears, it's hard to imagine not being friends with a person you've worked well and closely with for 15 years.

And Pry has a relationship with Bud and, most likely, Bud will continue
to help with the football team. Don’t see why he would step back all of sudden.
