I believe Fuente had 8
Not sure what Beamer's highest total was. This year we're going to get our share. But the transfers pouring in in January will make the immediate impact. Not a big fan of the state of college football now, but I have to admit January is going to be fun for VT. ** Edited by crazylane at 11/28/2025, 10:50:39 PM

Well there are so many rating sites it's gotten to be a joke
Ot sure it really matters we just need solid players that are a step up from just warm bodies

There was a Fuente class that had like 11 EsPN 4*s
Not sure espn even has a ranking service any longer, if that tells you anything.

I’d guess it was the 2008 class with 8 4-star recruits
The class was ranked #16 nationally. That said, star rankings are only about 25 years old. So their were some good classes like 1995 and 1998 that have rankings.

Did Vick even have a star rating in 97-98?
I don't remember one. But oddly enough, it was fun following recruiting without the overabundance of information. Guys like Doug Doughty, even though a hoo, was good to follow. And Gary Criswell was all over it on the radio in Richmond. When a guy committed, you wouldn't know for sometimes days later in the paper.

Rivals and ESPN started publishing star ratings between 2000
and 2003.. some Recruiting services might have had Star ratings. But in 1998 when Vick signed, the de facto standard in Virginia was Doug Doughty’s Too 25 recruiting ranking in the Roanoke Times. 1998 proved to be a very good class for the Hokies, signing six of the top 11 players in the state. Vick was the #3 player and we can assume in today’s star rankings, he would have been a 4-star recruit

Michael Vick 6'2"
Lol. I saw Hicks play in a regional playoff game. He looked like the real deal. Dud he ever make it to Tech? For some reason I'm thinking Georgia.

Iirc Vick was a 4*, but all the talk and hype was about Curry from Hampton
A 5* Hoo spurned the hoos for unc cuz they promised him he could play bb as well.

Was listening to that game on my way home from Durham.

Nah. I haven't.
I have no idea what the answer is. Some guys are 4-star by one service, and 3-star by another. So the answer is different depending on where you look.

pay side, I'm guessing?
It just occurred to me today. I haven't counted, but new coach is racking them up!
