Tech has regressed 50 years.
And I know, I've been a Hokie for 57 years. I had more hope watching Stafford hand off to Francisco on 3rd and 8.

Same with me. Football at Virginia Tech is terrible.

Yes, he was ugly and his football was boring...with a .632 winning %
and if you are queasy over his infractions.... you may not want to know what it's going to take to recruit the type of athletes we are going to need. I don't want to be a Dooley apologist but his departure was due to his deficit spending as AD more than the overblown impermissible benefits, (the SEC would laugh our our ineptitude at cheating). Like it or not Dooley brought VT into the realm of modern football.

Screw that pompous bastard and the NCAA penalties he left us with.

Bruce Smith on line 1

Bruce wasn't responsible. Neither was anyone else on the team but
Dooley put us in the can and left with a pocket of cash. It set us back to before he ever got there. Nothing to like him over wins or no wins.

Your anger.....
is at best partially misplaced. Dooley left with cash because the VT administration, specifically, Bill Lavery, was asleep at the wheel and Dooley was smart enough to hire a damned good attorney. After the Sharpe debacle VT was reeling. IMO, Lavery was right to go for a high profile hire and Dooley met the bill on several fronts. Once they decided to hire him as both AD and football coach they erred by totally ignoring and/or enforcing their oversight responsibilities and authority. The NCAA mess was largely the NCAA looking for reven.ge against VT over the Bruce Smith/Independence Bowl dust up. By the way the NCAA in general but, enforcement specifically, sucks. That arm is largely a home for admins looking to raise their profile and attorneys auditioning for a lifetime headquarters gig with a bunch of perks or padding their resumes and relationships for a private sector gig with one of the boutique firms making bank by getting wayward crooks like UNC off while their former cronies hammer Troy State and other small time offenders in the name of NCAA discipline. ** Edited by 2hhoop3 at 9/4/2022, 4:46:58 PM

Bruce did nothing wrong...NCAA justice is unjust...but like many, you lack
an understanding of Tech football history and what Dooley accomplished and the circumstances under which he left.

2hhoops3's recollection is dead on accurate...
I've only been following the Hokies for 51 years and was a sportswriter for media in the area during the timeframe you say he lacks an understanding of. It's exactly as I remember it too... ** Edited by AshburnFarmHokie at 9/5/2022, 9:24:14 AM
