After the Sharpe debacle VT was reeling. IMO, Lavery was right to go for a high profile hire and Dooley met the bill on several fronts. Once they decided to hire him as both AD and football coach they erred by totally ignoring and/or enforcing their oversight responsibilities and authority. The NCAA mess was largely the NCAA looking for reven.ge against VT over the Bruce Smith/Independence Bowl dust up. By the way the NCAA in general but, enforcement specifically, sucks.
